How
to perform searches with Windex ?
If you enter several words, Windex uses the proximity operator.
Two words are near if they are separated
by "empty" words. Empty words
are articles, pronouns, link words... For
instance :
will
match the word search
followed
by engine.
Windex
manages Boolean operators: and,
with, or, not, without, except Enter,
for example:
You
can type the words
- in
lower case or upper case: Windex
is not case-sensitive, -
in the plural or the singular:
Windex manages plural
words in French (and in English,
depending on the configuration
of the WindexA applet)
Sophisticated
search:
Go
into "phonetic search"
mode via the corresponding checkbox,
type the word as you would pronounce
it, then click on the search
button
For
example: type "fonetic",
and Windex will find "phonetic"
If
the checkbox is not displayed,
add the equals sign "="in
front of the first letter of
the word, so as to indicate
that this word is to be searched
for phonetically.
To
perform a wide search covering
the words connected to a word
root, type for example: us*
and Windex will show
the documents containing the
words starting with "us".
NB:
this method may generate a great
many answers, to the detriment
of relevance.
The
word must include the first
two letters. A wildcard can
replace any group of letters
in a word. Remember, the
root of the word must contain
at least 2 letters.
The
results window is displayed
The results
window shows you
the
number of pages found which contain
the words entered
the
list of HTML pages, indicating:
- the
result number, - the
page title in red, - the
page summary in black, - in
blue and on the right, the link
to the HTML page (hypertext
link).
To run down
the list of answers, use the lift on
the right of the window.
